Member FAQ

Can I be represented by HUSW in an investigation if I am not a member?

No. Only members in good standing are eligible for union representation in individual employment matters. Our union cannot represent members in issues that pre-date membership, however you do become eligible for representation as soon as your first dues payment is initiated.

Is there a waiting period or initiation fee to join HUSW?

No. Membership in HUSW is open to any employee in the blue-collar or white-collar bargaining unit. There is no waiting period; new hires are immediately eligible to become members of HUSW. There are no application or initiation fees.

Who is eligible to participate in the election of HUSW officers?

Only HUSW members in good standing are eligible to self-nominate or cast ballots in union elections. To run for an elected position, the only criteria is that you must be a member in good standing.

I'm not yet a member of HUSW, but I have concerns about my working conditions. What can I do?

Join HUSW and talk to a member-leader about your issue; they may be able to identify opportunities to support your concerns once you are an active member. Participate in annual bargaining interest surveys.
